First to Marion County where Fine Arts for Ocala is putting together the Ocala Arts Festival this weekend. This is the 47th year for the event, this year featuring over 200 fine artists from around the country showing off their work. There'll also be school art exhibits, food and fun things for the kids to do. The Ocala Arts Festival runs from 10 to 5 Saturday and Sunday in downtown Ocala. Website
If you're into cars, Marion County is also the place to be this weekend. The Ocala Pumpkin Run classic car show is in its third year. The event, referred to as "Horsepower in Horse Country", features tons of cars and trucks of every year, make and model. Auto and craft vendors will also be there, in addition to live music, food and a six acre kids area. The Ocala Pumpkin Run goes from 8 am to 4 pm Saturday and Sunday at Castro Farms, 7700 Northwest Highway 27. It's about three miles west of I-75 exit 354. Website
Just up the road in southern Alachua County, the Micanopy Fall Harvest Festival is this weekend. Cholokka Boulevard downtown will be filled with all kinds of arts and crafts. The event also includes an auction, lots of food possibilities and musicians performing throughout the day. The festival runs from 9 to 5 Saturday and 9 to 4 Sunday in downtown Micanopy. Website
If cars and crafts aren't your thing, how about bats? Saturday is the day for the Florida Bat Festival. The event is a perfect place to learn about bats... and find out how beneficial they are to the environment. There'll be all kinds of bat themed things to buy, in addition to food and fun things for the kids. The event is from 10 to 4 Saturday at the Lubee Bat Conservancy, located about 9 miles north of Gainesville at 1309 NW 192nd Avenue. Website
This is also the weekend for Noche de Gala, the fundraiser for the Shands Hospital for Children project. It starts at 7 pm Saturday at Besilu Collection in Micanopy. Website
Finally, it's a great weekend to check out the farm fall festivals and corn mazes. Coon Hollo Corn Maze in Micanopy - website , Rogers Farm north of Gainesville - website , and the Newberry Cornfield Maze - website will all be busy this weekend.
