One Voice: Wayne Fields
GAINESVILLE- Our One Voice guest is a homegrown Gator who attended Gainesville High School before moving on to play for the Gators from 1972-'75.
Wayne Fields made an immediate impact as a freshman starter in the Gators secondary, but he also said he was equally impacted by race relations and integration around the SEC during that time.
Fields credits Gators coach Doug Dickey for recruiting African-Americans to the football team for the first time and recounts a story of a trip to Ole Miss when the Rebels were not integrated.
Fields also discussed missing out on a shot to play with the Pittsburg Steelers as well as his time working as an employee for WCJB TV20 back in the 1970's.
