If you're feeling a little batty, check out the Florida Bat Festival Saturday. You'll have the opportunity to see giant fruit bats (some with a six foot wingspan!) and learn how beneficial bats are to our natural environment. No bats expected in High Springs Saturday as the city plays host to the High Springs Fall Festival. The event features music, a variety of arts and crafts...and food. There'll also be a "Kids Korral", a cake walk and costume contest. The fun starts at 10 am and goes until 5 Saturday afternoon in downtown High Springs. Website
To the south in Marion County, the folks in the small community of McIntosh are gearing up for their 1890's Festival. This is the 39th year for the festival featuring all sorts of crafts and antiques. You can watch a blacksmith, candlemaker and much more. The people of McIntosh run the festival as a way of raising money to fund projects in the community. The festival runs from 8 to 5 Saturday in downtown McIntosh on highway 441 between Gainesville and Ocala. Website
Farther south near Ocala, if you like cars you'll want to take in the Ocala Pumpkin Run. Also known as "Horsepower in Horse Country", the Pumpkin Run is a classic car show featuring all makes and models from all eras. It also features automotive vendors, kids activities and live music. The Pumpkin Run goes from 8 to 4 both days this weekend at Castro Farms, 7700 NW Highway 27 in Ocala. Website
In Ocala this is also the weekend for the Ocala Arts Festival. Over 200 artists will have their work on display at the family friendly event. In addition to the art, there will be things for the kids to do. You can also take a look at school art exhibits, and enjoy a variety of food.
