OCALA - The egg is a symbol of new life and rebirth. Colored eggs are used to celebrate spring and easter by many people in many places. And ocala is no stranger to the art of egg decorating or hunting.
Millions across the country are hunting for eggs this weekend. And there's a very good chance the hues to dye these eggs, come from Ocala. Signature Brands is based out of here Ocala but they ship PAAS kits such as this one world wide.
Pat Reddish the Human Resources Director for Signature Brands says they bought PAAS in 1999. "One of the things paas has done is be a sponsor of the white house easter egg role every monday, the day after easter. So when we purchased it I said, if we can do it for the white house we can do it for ocala. So the first year we had one tent, a cookie decorating table and an egg decorating table," Reddish said.
And from the first year to the 14th, it's done nothing but grow the Human Resources Manager. Tiffany Lacey the Human Resources Manager, Signature Brands, "My favorite part is seeing it all come live. You do all this planning, you make all these calls and then you come out and see the kids having a good time. We had character photo opportunities, a little bit earlier. And seeing all the kids smiling."
Marnie Bennett who brought her family from tampa to this eggs-travaganza says she remember decorating with paas from when she was a kid. "I've actually used paas my whole life. So I knew the little characters, cotton tail. So we came out and thought we'd get pictures with our kids with all the characters from PAAS," Bennett said.
Bennett's kids loved the experience and hope to come out again. Their only worry? The number of eggs they got. Zane Bennett her son says, "I really like it but there's older kids, I am not sure how many eggs I got."
Signature Brands owns Betty Crocker, Cake Mate and Pumpkin Masters among other brands. However PAAS takes the cake when it comes to events. The eggs-travanganza was open to the public and free of charge to everyone. It's expected to happen again next year, the Saturday before Easter.
