Happy Friday everyone! Spring is a great time of year for outdoor activities...and we've got plenty to keep you busy this weekend.
While the Gator basketball team is off at the Sweet 16, the baseball team is in town for a 3 game series. The Gators, coming off that close game versus Florida State a few days ago, are taking on the 11th ranked Ole' Miss Rebels. The series starts tonight at 7 pm at McKethan Stadium, with the other two games Saturday and Sunday at 1 pm. By the way, the men's tennis team is facing off against Arkansas Sunday at 1 on the UF campus. Website
Saturday, if you enjoy the great outdoors, you might want to head to Hawthorne for William Bartram Trails Day. Bartram was a noted naturalist, writer and artist who spent a lot of time studying the wilderness in north central Florida in the late 1700's. At the event, artists who focus on nature will be showing off their work. There'll also be live music, storytelling and Clydesdale Wagon Rides. Add in fish, grits and hushpuppies and you've got a nice family outing. Trails Day runs from 11 to 3 Saturday at Little Orange Creek Nature Park, 1.3 miles east of Hawthorne on State Road 20. Website
It is Easter weekend... and the City of Ocala and Ocala based Signature Brands are hosting one big Easter egg hunt. It's the 14th annual PAAS Eggstravaganza. The festival will have plenty of opportunities to hunt the 20 plus thousand elusive eggs. There will be scheduled egg hunts for different age groups, in addition to egg decorating, train rides and more. Take an easter basket with you. The fun goes from 10 to 2 Saturday at Tuscawilla Park on NE Sanchez Avenue in Ocala. Website
Also in Ocala, Wild Waters opens for the season on Saturday. The water park has been a Marion County fixture for 35 years now. It's open weekends until June 8th, then daily through August 18th. Website
Enjoy your weekend!
