A Florida tradition returns to White Springs this weekend. The Florida Folk Festival, now in its 61st year (!), is a three day celebration of Florida's music, dance, food and crafts. There'll be over 300 performers on 15 stages during the event. The musical entertainment features the Bellamy Brothers, Jim Stafford plus many more. You can sample some great food, check out fiddle and banjo contests... and enjoy lots of other activities. The Florida Folk Festival continues tonight through Sunday at Stephen Foster State Park, just off I-75 exit 439 in White Springs. Website
If it's seafood you're looking for, Palatka may be the place for you this holiday weekend. The Blue Crab Festival returns to the banks of the St. Johns River. The event is a Memorial Day weekend tradition. Yes, you can count on the food.... but there'll also be lots of live music, carnival rides and a "kid zone" for those a little younger. You might want to check out the seafood cookoff Sunday at 10 am. The fun goes until midnight tonight... continuing through the rest of the holiday weekend along the riverfront in downtown Palatka. Silver Springs in Marion County continues its 2013 Concert Series Saturday. Performing on stage: Night Ranger and Kansas. The group Night Ranger has it's roots in the 80's and is known for it's hit "Sister Christian", from their platinum album "Midnight Madness". Kansas got it's start back in the 70's, producing several gold and platinum albums. The group is probably best known for its hits "Dust in the Wind" and "Carry On Wayward Son". The music starts at 7 Saturday evening at Silver Springs. Website
In downtown Gainesville, the Free Fridays Concert Series continues tonight. The 17-member Gainesville Community Jazz Band will be performing. They play a wide range of styles from traditional swing to latin to contemporary jazz. The concert runs tonight from 8 to 10 at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza. Website
