Happy Friday everyone! A bit quiet around our area this weekend... but we have a few ideas for you.
Indoors this weekend you can cool off and take in the Gainesville Community Playhouse's latest show. This is the first weekend for GCP's production of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer". Many of us are familiar with the classic Mark Twain book... and the various movie versions. This musical adaptation of the story revolves around Tom's life growing up along the Mississippi River. You can expect familiar characters Huck Finn and Becky Thatcher, along with lots of catchy tunes... and laughs as well. Show times are tonight and Saturday night at 8, with a matinee at 2 pm Sunday. The City of Gainesville's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department continues its Free Friday's Concert Series Tonight. Every Friday from April to November, the city gives local and regional bands the stage to showcase their talent. The indie rock band "Morningbell" will be on stage tonight. The group, which recently released its sixth album, got its start in Miami, moving to Gainesville ten years ago. The music goes from 8 to 10 tonight at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza in downtown Gainesville. Website
If you've spent any time on the UF campus, you're probably familiar with the sounds from Century Tower. The facility has its own Sunday Afternoon Concert Series. It gives listeners the chance to hear a fifty minute recital played on the 61 bell UF Carillon, one of the largest university carillons in the U.S. Concert programs are given out at the south base of the tower... just bring a blanket or lawn chair. This weekends' concert is at 3 Sunday afternoon on the UF campus. Website
Enjoy your weekend!
