Happy Friday everyone! College football here is still a couple of weeks off.... but there's plenty to do around town this weekend.
And speaking of football, this weekend you'll have a chance to see a few of your favorite teams at the O'Connell Center in Gainesville. Fan Day will take place at the Main Arena of the Odome on Saturday. You can pick up 2013 Gator team posters... and meet your favorite football, volleyball and soccer players and coaches. Members of the football team will be available to sign your poster from 3 to 6 p.m. The volleyball team will scrimmage from 3:30 until 4:30. The volleyball and soccer teams will be available for autographs from 5 to 6 p.m. Feel free to bring small personal cameras to the event. Website
Saturday is also National Honey Bee Day. The North Central Florida Beekeeping Association hosts the event to provide a fun and educational experience for the public. Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm at the Priest Theatre in High Springs you can talk bees with the experts. Starting at 1:30 pm at Dadant Beekeeping Supplies you can also learn about bees and see an open hive demonstration. There'll also be a raffle, live auction, vendors and people from the UF Bee Lab there. That event is at 17074 NW 188th Street in High Springs. Website
The City of Gainesville's Free Friday's Concert Series continues tonight downtown. Tom Shed and friends will be on stage. Along with other Florida musicians, Tom Shed will deliver a musical look at the lives and events from around the Sunshine State. The evening will feature a mix of folk, country, big band and jazz music. Just bring a chair and enjoy. The concert starts at 8 pm tonight at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza in Gainesville. Website
Finally, the Matheson Museum is hosting a mini re-enactment of the Civil War Battle of Gainesville. You'll get a chance to see what life was life for the men who fought in the war... with historically accurate uniforms and artifacts there. The event starts at 10 am Saturday at the Matheson Museum, 513 East University Avenue in Gainesville. Website
