Happy Friday everyone! Indoors or out, this is going to be an active weekend across our area.
This is the weekend for the Cedar Key Seafood Festival. Aside from tasty oysters, clams, shrimp and other food, there'll be plenty going on. The festival that celebrates the areas fishing heritage will also feature live music several places around town... and over 200 exhibits of arts and crafts. There'll also be a parade Saturday morning at 11 am. The Cedar Key Seafood Festival runs Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 5 at City Park. While you're on the island you can take a shuttle boat from the city marina to Seahorse Key. That island, and it's lighthouse, will be open to visitors. Website
The quiet community of McIntosh is hosting it's 1890's Festival this weekend. The folks in McIntosh have been running the festival since 1974 as a way of raising money to fund community projects. You can expect lots of food, arts and crafts, antiques, and music. The festival runs Saturday from 8 until 5. Just head to downtown McIntosh on highway 441 just south of Micanopy. Website
Just up the road in Gainesville, butterflies will be in the air. The Florida Museum of Natural History is hosting its annual ButterflyFest this weekend. The event will feature butterfly releases, presentations and workshops, and other fun activities. You can also pick up butterfly friendly plants while you're there. ButterflyFest is Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm at the museum near the corner of SW 34th Street and Hull Road in Gainesville. Website
Next door, the Phillips Center is host to "Phantom: A Tale of Obsession" on Saturday. The show, a production of Dance Alive National Ballet, is based on the novel by Gaston Leroux. That novel was, of course, the basis for the famous broadway show. Showtime is Saturday night at 7:30 at the Phillips Center. Website
Two more items. The Alachua County Fair starts tonight and continues through next Saturday. Website If its music you want, check out Magnolia Fest at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak. Website
