Victims of Barbershop Shooting Survive
OCALA- Two men from Marion County are thankful to be alive today after they were robbed and shot over the weekend. The names of the two victims were released today.
Both victims survived the shooting and today one of victims speaks exclusively with TV20's Yaremi Farinas.
Late Saturday night two men stormed into this 24 hour barbershop on North Magnolia Avenue in Ocala. Instead of taking the money and running, the robbers ordered the victims to get on the ground.
Then the robbers shot the owner and an employee.
"I was just ready for it to be over." said Jose Rodriguez.
Two days ago, 32- year -old Rodriguez was shot in the back in his own shop. Rodriguez is the owner of Alpha Barbers which is a 24 hour barbershop in Ocala.
"It was just a regular day. The shop was winding down so I was turning the TVs off," said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez said every night he leaves the front door wide open for his customers.
"I pin the door open at night so the light comes out and so the business looks more welcoming and the customers can see that we are open," said Rodriguez.
But late Saturday night, that wide open door welcomed two robbers into Rodriguez’s shop.
"Two gentlemen came in in black hoodies and dressed in black and said gives us your money and get in the floor," said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez and his employee 32- year- old Juan Carlos Sustache Pagan were the only two people inside the barbershop during the robbery. The victims gave the robbers everything they had including cash and a cell phone.
Then Rodriguez and Pagan both got on the floor hoping it would all be over soon.
"They shot me in the back and they shot the other barber in the shoulders and they stepped out and left," said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez immediately called 9-1-1.
"We cooperated. We gave them what they asked for. It was just completely senseless," said Rodriguez.
Both Rodriguez and Pagan survived the shooting. Alpha Barbers has been open for five years and Rodriguez said nothing like this has ever happened at his shop.
"It could happen anywhere. It just so happened to be on a Saturday night at a barber shop that's open all night," said Rodriguez.
But he is taking action by getting new security cameras, a security buzzer door and he's even planning on hiring an armed security company.
"We are more likely going to be hiring them to come by throughout the week and survey the property so that the customers and the employees feel safe because we are not going anywhere," said Rodriguez.
The two attackers are only described as black men in their early twenties. One of them was wearing a silver necklace with what appeared to be round diamonds on it.
