Happy Friday everyone! It's a busy weekend here....so let's get right to it!
Cinderella is returning to town. By Cinderella, I mean the full length ballet...a holiday tradition around our area for about 20 years. It's presented by Gainesville's Danscompany. Admission is $15...with kids under ten free with a new, unwrapped toy or book as long as seats are available. And after the performance you can meet the dancers, too. You can see "Cinderella" at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts Saturday at 1:30 and 7:00 p.m. Website
If the weather doesn't get you in the holiday spirit, then some of the holiday goings on will. The Festival of Lights at Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs is one of those events. I went there last year and it's a great place to take the family. There's holiday music all around and over five million lights on display. Add in the Gingerbread Village, a train display, marshmallow roasting, and the chance to experience some un-Florida-like snow! The Festival of Lights at Stephen Foster starts tonight and goes until January 3rd, running every night (except Christmas) until 9 pm. Website
The new Silver Springs State Park is having a celebration of its own. The first annual Lights and Laser Holiday Celebration starts tonight at the park. You can expect fog and snow machines, and lasers, to put on a show. At the family friendly event you can have your picture taken with Santa and his helpers, and listen to carolers strolling throughout the park. The Lights and Laser Holiday Celebration is Friday through Sunday nights the next couple of weeks (December 6-8, and 13-15), then daily December 19-31. Website
To the north in Live Oak, it's time for Christmas on the Square. This is the 29th year for the holiday event. There'll be live entertainment, dancers, a car and truck show and arts and crafts. Christmas on the Square runs from 8 am to 4 pm Saturday in downtown Live Oak. While you're there don't miss the Christmas Parade. That starts Saturday night at 6 pm. Website
Chiefland is having its Christmas Festival this weekend. It goes from 9 am to 8 pm Saturday, with a parade starting at 5 pm. Website
