Happy Friday everyone! A little quieter around our area this weekend... But if you're looking to get out of the house we have a few suggestions for you, indoors and out.
Indoors, it's a great weekend to catch some Gator hoops. The Lady Gators take to the court at the O'Connell Center Saturday as they face off against Georgetown. Tip-off is 2 pm. Website Meanwhile Sunday, the men's basketball team is in action at the Odome. The Savannah State Tigers will be in town to take on the 13th ranked Gators, That game starts Sunday at 3 pm. Website
Though Christmas has passed, it's still a good time to check out some of the light displays you may have missed earlier in the month. Stephen Foster State Park in White Springs is a great place to do just that. Five million lights, marshmallow roasting, and free hot cocoa and popcorn are just a few of things you can enjoy during your visit. The Festival of Lights at Stephen Foster is every night until 9 pm through Friday, January 3rd. Website
Silver Springs State Park in Ocala continues it's holiday festivities as well this weekend. Snow and fog machines are part of the fun, in addition to the lights and lasers which create a winter wonderland of light. The Lights and Laser Holiday Celebration at Silver Springs starts at 6:30 in the evening, continuing nightly until this Monday, December 30th. Website
If you'd like to give ice skating a try, head to downtown Ocala. The City of Ocala has its synthetic ice skating rink up and running. But you'd better hurry. The rink will be up only until Sunday, January 5th. Hours are Monday through Friday 3 to 9 pm. Saturday and Sunday hours are noon until 9 in the evening. Website Website
One last note. If you and a friend would like to try fresh water fishing, this is a great weekend to go. Saturday is the last of the "license free fishing days" for 2013. The requirement to have a freshwater fishing license is waived Saturday. Website
