Happy Friday everyone! Our first weekend of March will be a busy one...
Indoors you can get a little taste of Ireland this weekend. The popular group Celtic Woman is appearing at the Phillips Center Saturday. The all-female group got its start in 2004. Their new production, called "The Emerald Tour", celebrates Ireland and the Celtic heritage of the Emerald Isle. Expect a mix of original music, in addition to pop standards and traditional Irish music. Showtime is 7:30 Saturday evening at the Phillips Center. Website
Outdoors, it looks like a great weekend to enjoy the beginning of March. Our friends in Palatka are celebrating with their annual Florida Azalea Festival. The two day event starts Saturday morning at 8 in downtown Palatka. You can enjoy entertainment on the courthouse lawn, with arts and crafts, food, and kids activities throughout the festival. Website Ravine Gardens State Park, also in Palatka, is having its Azalea Days event this weekend, too. You can take a ranger led wagon tour of the park and enjoy the dogwoods, magnolias and nearly 100,000 azaleas while you're there. Website
In Ocala, strawberries are the part of the fun for the first Habitat Strawberry and Craft Festival. The event will help raise funds to build a home in the community, and support the Habitat for Humanity. There'll be a strawberry pancake breakfast, other food, arts and crafts, and a Kid's Zone. You can buy flats of strawberries while you're there, by the way. There will also be two stages of entertainment, including headliner and country music artist Chuck Wicks. The event runs from 8 to 5 Saturday in downtown Ocala. Website
An active weekend of sports at UF. The baseball team kicks off the action tonight as they face Illinois at 7 pm at McKethan Stadium. They'll also take on Florida Gulf Coast Saturday at 7 pm, and Illinois again Sunday at 1 pm. In basketball, the top ranked mens team plays LSU Saturday at 4 pm, while the women face Texas A&M Sunday at 1. Website
Finally, in Lake City, the North Florida Home and Patio Show is this weekend. You can check it out at the Columbia County Fairgrounds. Website
Enjoy your weekend!
