If you're into drag racing, THIS is your weekend. The NHRA Gatornationals are underway now at Auto Plus Raceway in Gainesville. This is the 45th year for the traditional east coast opener for the season. Whether you like Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock or Pro Stock Motorcycle, there'll be plenty to see... and a lot to hear this weekend. Qualifying continues on Saturday...with the championship rounds Sunday. The raceway is on County Road 225, just north of NE 53rd Avenue in Gainesville. Website
If the roar of the engines isn't your thing, White Springs may be the place for you this weekend. Stephen Foster State Park, and the town of White Springs, are hosting the Wild Azalea Festival. The activities begin tonight at 7 downtown with live music and a street dance. Saturday there'll be breakfast, and a 5K run, starting at 8. Downtown you can check out the street crafts fair, live music, and a kids area. Wild azaleas will be the highlight, of course, and you can purchase some while you're in town. The City of Archer is celebrating its railroad heritage Saturday. Archer Yulee Railroad Day activities include a parade, live music, food, craft vendors and games for the kids. It's been over 150 years since the first train pulled into town and you can learn about the history yourself. The event goes from 9 to 4 Saturday at the Archer Railroad Museum on SW 134th Avenue in Archer. Website
Also outdoors this weekend, the Florida Gateway Pro Rodeo returns to Lake City. The gates open earlier, with the action starting at 8 tonight and Saturday night, and at 2 pm Sunday at the Columbia County Fairgrounds. Website
Finally, indoors this weekend, "Bolero!", a production of Dance Alive National Ballet, is at the Phillips Center Saturday night at 7:30. Website Country music fans, the Gatlin Brothers are performing at the Orange Blossom Opry in Weirsdale Saturday at 2:30 and 7:30 pm. Website
