If your appreciation of music extends to jazz, the Phillips Center is the place for you this evening. The performing arts center is host to "An Evening with Branford Marsalis". The well known saxophonist and composer is part of a family of jazz musicians. His 30-plus year career includes three Grammy awards, a stint as the band leader for "The Tonight Show", in addition to performing solo and as part of the Branford Marsalis Quartet. The Louisiana native takes to the stage at the Phillips Center tonight at 7:30. Website
In Gainesville, the Santa Fe College Spring Arts Festival is this weekend. This is the 45th year for the event, the longest running arts festival in our area. There'll be a wide variety of art ...Including painting, jewelry, photography and a lot more. The family friendly event features kids activities, entertainment on two stages, and plenty of food. The Spring Arts Festival runs from 9 to 5:30 Saturday, with an evening of jazz on the Thomas Center lawn until 8:30 pm. The event also goes from noon to 5:30 Sunday. Jest Fest returns to Gainesville for the month of April. The event, which takes place each Saturday this month, features a variety of performers. This Saturday's entertainment includes the cast of the Hippodrome show "The Tempest", and The Flying Wallendas, the group known for its high wire acrobatics. Jest Fest starts at 6 pm Saturday at the Bo Diddley Community Plaza in downtown Gainesville. Website
The O'Connell Center is host to the "Belles and Bowties" fantasy event. The fundraiser for Stop Children's Cancer will be an evening of great food, live entertainment and a silent auction. It's designed to raise awareness and support for pediatric cancer research at UF Health. "Belles and Bowties" goes from 7 to midnight Saturday. Website
In Marion County, Silver Springs State Park is the place for "Bluegrass in the Park" starting at 4:30 Saturday. You can enjoy some good bluegrass and take in the natural surroundings!
