Happy Friday everyone! Music and food (which I'm into) are big parts of our weekend events.
In Ocala, it's time for Downtown Summer Jams. This is the fourth year for the event where local bands get a chance to perform. Performing tonight: Antic, No Komply, Sweet Hangs and Undone Perfection. While you're enjoying the music, sample some of the food from the food trucks... and check out the classic car show nearby. If you miss the event tonight, it will be back August 15th and then again September 19th. Summer Jams runs from 6 to 10 pm tonight. This year it’s at Citizens' Circle in downtown Ocala. Website
It's been a bit hot here lately, but you can enjoy some heat of a different variety in Gainesville this weekend. The Alachua County Farmer's Market is host to the Gainesville Chili Pepper Festival Saturday. Live music will be part of the event, in addition to a chili cookoff. Kids can take part in a watermelon seed spitting contest. And while you're there you can check out all the locally grown produce and learn how to can it yourself. The Gainesville Chili Pepper Festival goes from 8:30 am to 1 pm Saturday. Website
To the north in White Springs, Stephen Foster State Park is host to Antique, Arts and Collectibles Day Saturday. If you'd like to get into collecting, whether it be teapots, furniture, farm equipment or other things, you'll can spend time talking to the collectors there to see how they got started. The event runs from 10 to 4 Saturday at Stephen Foster State Park, located on U.S. 41 in White Springs. Website
If you like the music of the 60's, you might want to head to Marion County Saturday. The American rock band The Lovin' Spoonful will be in concert. The group (including two of its original members) is known for the hits "Do You Believe in Magic", "Summer in the City" and "Daydream". The Lovin' Spoonful will be on stage at 2:30 and 7:30 pm Saturday at the Orange Blossom Opry in Weirsdale. Website
Finally, if you'd like some good barbecue, check out Smokin' on the Suwannee at the Suwannee County Fairgrounds in Live Oak tonight through Saturday. Website
Enjoy your weekend!
