Happy Friday everyone! Things are getting a bit more active around our area.
The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park is host to the Blackwater Music Festival through Saturday. If you like reggae, you'll likely enjoy the festival which features over 30 bands, along with camping near the Suwannee River. Stephen Marley, Steel Pulse, The Expendables and Slightly Stoopid are some of the acts performing at the event. Single day tickets to the festival are 65 dollars. In Alachua County, the Tioga Town Fair is Saturday. The family friendly event features bounce houses, slides, a rock climbing wall, petting zoo and more. Carnival games and food are part of the fun, as well. The cost is 15 dollars for children 3 and up. It's free for adults and kids under age 3. The Tioga Town Fair benefits the Sebastian Ferrero Foundation which advocates and raises funds to advance pediatric health care. The event runs from 4 to 8 pm Saturday at Tioga Town Center located west of Gainesville on Newberry Road. Website
In Gainesville, the University of Florida is holding the first ever "Rally in the Swamp" on Sunday. The idea behind the student pep rally is to welcome students back to campus and to get them fired up about the start to the upcoming football season. The gates to the east side of Ben Hill Griffin stadium open at 7 pm when students can win prizes, with the first 3,000 receiving free pizza. The event starts at 8 and will feature the Florida cheerleaders, Albert and Alberta, coach Will Muschamp and members of the football team. Website
Finally, also on the UF campus, you can catch the soccer team in action twice this weekend. The Gators take on Miami tonight at 7. They face off against USF Sunday at 1 pm at James G. Pressly Stadium. Website
