We all know that if you detect breast cancer early, your odds of beating it are better than 90 percent. Regular self-exams, clinical exams and mammograms make sense. But we don't always do what makes sense. That's why North Florida Regional Medical Center and WCJB TV20 teamed up to create Pals for Life. It's designed to help women work together to make sure they are doing all they can to ensure breast health. The program is simple. It could save your life or the life of your pal. That's why we call it Pals for Life.
If you are a woman in America, your chance of being diagnosed with invasive breast cancer is approximately 1 in 8. Early detection is the key to effective treatment. A great tool for simple and effective self-examination is the Pals for Life Kit.
Inside your Pals for Life Kit, you will find the following:
• Breast Health Information
• Monthly Calendar
• Calendar stickers to remind you to call your pal on the 20th of each month about your regular breast self-exam
• Shower card to guide you through your self-exam

Your Pal for Life can be a relative, friend, co-worker or neighbor. After that, it's as easy as 1-2-3.
1: Use your calendar stickers to remember your breast self-exams happen on the 20th of each month. Pals remind each other so neither forget!
2: Pals remind one another about regular clinical breast exams. Typically, these happen annually but always according to guidelines from your doctor.
3: Pals remind each other about regular mammograms. Some women who are pals schedule their mammograms so they can go together. Again, the frequency of your mammograms is according to guidelines from your doctor.
