Alex Calamia was born and raised in New York City but gives credit to Florida for falling in love with meteorology from a very young age. Growing up, Alex spent every summer in the “Sunshine State” and remembers watching beautiful, puffy clouds build and build every afternoon turning a quiet, sunny day into one filled with the sounds and sights of pouring rain and crashing lightning. While New York City experiences just about every kind of weather there is, it’s those Florida thunderstorms that created the spark that drove Alex to pursue his degree in meteorology.
Alex holds a Bachelors of Science in Meteorology from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey where he graduated with honors. Alex was the president of the AMS Local Meteorology Chapter for his university and was awarded “Meteorology Student of the Year” for excelling academically and for his outstanding community service.
Alex began his professional career in meteorology as a part-time weather producer for WPIX-11 in New York City. Alex joined the team at WCJB-TV20 in February 2017 as the weekend meteorologist for the 6pm & 11pm Evening Edition.
During his spare time, Alex loves to garden with tropical plants. You can often catch Alex with a camera shooting photos of nature. Alex loves to incorporate his passion for weather and the environment with his community service.
