Back to school savings site
GAINESVILLE-- You may remember birch finance-- we introduced you to the Gainesville start-up that created an app to help you track your finances and credit card rewards all in one place.
Now that same company has launched a website that aims to put those rewards to good use this tax-free weekend.
It's that time of year again... soon schools will be back in session and that means parents -and teachers- are stocking up on school supplies.
Samuel DeBlasis of Birch Finance says, "it kind of originated with our CEO and his girlfriend. She is an aspiring teacher , she studying to become a teacher and they were talking about the best places to buy school supplies. That kind of clicked with us. We have all this data, all this information that we use here at birch and we can definitely use that to help people put a little extra money in their pocket."
Just choose the type of card you have and input a zip code. The website does the rest.
No registration, sign-up, or personal information is needed.
"You can put in a zip code for anywhere, we'll rank your results based on how many rewards you’re getting back for your credit cards and also the distance from your zip code to these different stores. So we wanted to make that a very simple tool. We even have the google maps a-p-i sitting right there on the page so you can see exactly from your location where those stores are around you."
DeBlasis says the app will help maximize those back-to-school deals in the long run as shoppers earn extra cashback, reward points, or miles for their card.
"Credit cards that earn points or miles where you can go back and redeem those for flights or hotels and so if you're looking to put a little bit extra money in your pocket, you can turn that into a vacation over next summer or the Christmas season."
And that means while you're checking off this… you could be saving some of these.
"Tax-free week is actually now a weekend. It's shorter and the parameters on it are a little more strict."
The shortened tax-free holiday starts Friday and runs through Sunday-- that means shoppers will have to act fast to get the best deals.
